Capital Leases A word of caution. "Dollar buyout leases" are not leases at all; they are loans which are classified by the IRS as conditional sales contracts or installment contracts. The customer is not entitled to distinct tax advantages a true lease offers. The customer who expenses their payment or avoid AMT recalculation on theses loans leave themselves vulnerable to hefty penalties, interest and recalculations. Capital Lease examples = Depreciation side of financing statement. $1.00 Purchase Option ($1.00 PO) Full Payout (FPO) If a customer pays cash, as with above example leases, they are entitled to depreciation.
